Michael Jackson Family Announces Tribute Concert

Lineup for October show in Cardiff, Wales, will be revealed August 3.

Michael Jackson's family has announced a tribute concert to the late King of Pop that is slated to take place on October 8 in Cardiff, Wales. The four-hour show at the 75,000-capacity Millennium Stadium will be broadcast via satellite on pay-per-view and into movie theaters with a cast of big-name performers whose identities have not yet been revealed.

At the Beverly Hills press conference on Monday revealing the details of the "Michael Forever" show, Jackson family matriarch Katherine was joined by sons Tito, Jackie and Marlon and daughter LaToya; siblings Jermaine, Randy, Janet and estranged husband Joe were not in attendance.

"When I was told some of the names of the artists performing, I knew it would be fit for a king. If my son was here today he would feel the same way, and so I'd like to say thank you very much for helping to keep my son's legacy alive," Katherine Jackson said of Michael, who died in June 2009 of a heart attack caused by a prescription drug overdose.

According to Wales Online, the show will feature artists Jackson admired and will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the start of his solo career.

"I will be there along with as many members of my family that can make it," Katherine said. "It is intended to be the biggest and best concert in the world for many years to come." LaToya added, "This event is far, far overdue. He was an entertainer who I feel no one can ever stand up to or hold a candle to as far as his talent is concerned. This tribute will be something spectacular and I know that he would approve."

One of the show's producers said that despite taking place in a large stadium, the event will have a more intimate atmosphere with the building's roof closed. Proceeds from the show will benefit three charities Jackson supported: the Prince's Trust, AIDS Project Los Angeles and a cancer charity. The show's lineup will be announced on August 3.

As with many things related to MJ's legacy, there was controversy, as brothers Randy and Jermaine said they thought the timing of the show was inappropriate. In a statement, the two said, "While we wholeheartedly support the spirit of a tribute that honors our brother, we find it impossible to support an event that is due to take place during the criminal trial surrounding Michael's death. As everyone knows, those proceedings commence September 20."

That date is when Jackson's former doctor, Conrad Murray, is slated to go on trial for manslaughter charges in the singer's death.

Jermaine attempted to put on a tribute concert to his late brother in September 2009, but the show fell apart after many of the top acts were unable to commit to the event.

Erica and Brittany Taltos: The Jersey Shore Twins!

Erica and Brittany Taltos probably didn't expect to become D-list celebrities when they decided to do a semester abroad in Florence, Italy. But now that they've achieved unexpected fame through their strange interactions with the Jersey Shore cast, the two University of Florida seniors seem to be loving every minute of it.

Snooki famously called Brittany a "whore" the first time The Situation brought the pretty young blonde back to the Shore house, but after witnessing the way Brittany and her twin sister, Erica, have latched on to the entire cast, it seems "fame whores" would be a more accurate insult. At first, it just seemed as though Brittany was a desperate young gal who had a thing for The Sitch (no accounting for taste), but then she brought her sister into the mix, and between the two of them, they hooked up with half the freakin' cast, regardless of gender.

Despite claiming to be a virgin, Erica literally hopped (she was drunk with her pants around her ankles) from Deena's bed to Vinny's in the same night. Some girls save themselves for marriage, Erica was apparently saving herself for a house full of spray-tanned guidos.

Since their unlikely rise to fame, the Taltos twins have been milking it for everything it's worth, engaging in bizarre publicity stunts such as posing for a photo shoot with a cardboard cut-out of The Situation, while wearing nothing but body paint. Um...cool? Sadly, it seems the twins time on the show is not yet over. Word on the street, however, is later this season they'll be involved in a near-violent run-in with a drunk Deena and Snooki. Stay classy, ladies!

Katy Perry Ties Michael Jackson Singles Record

'Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)' marks Perry's fifth #1 single from Teenage Dream, equal only to MJ's Bad achievement.

Back in June, Katy Perry was closing in on Michael Jackson's record for the most #1 singles from the same album — and now she's tied it up. Thanks to the feel-good party jam "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)," Perry has the same number of #1 singles from Teenage Dream on the Hot 100 as the late King of Pop did from 1987's Bad.

Now, Perry is both the only woman with five #1 singles from the same album and also the only living artist with that record. So what singles got her there aside from "Last Friday Night"? Perry's previous #1's from Teenage Dream are "California Gurls," "Teenage Dream," "Firework" and "E.T." Jackson achieved this feat back in 1987 and 1988 with "I Just Can't Stop Loving You," "Bad," "The Way You Make Me Feel," "Man in the Mirror" and "Dirty Diana" from his Bad album.

"What a way to wake up! SO proud to announce that the little-engine-that-could of a song 'LAST FRIDAY NIGHT' is officially #1 & made HISTORY!" the singer tweeted Wednesday (August 17). "&u know, I couldn't have done it with out ya, really I owe u guys BIG... so take this moment to give yourself a high FIVE!!! #allbecauseofu."

Perry broke another singles record earlier this month, having the first album from the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 chart to have five #1 singles. Perry's Teenage Dream album is the first in the nearly 19-year history of the chart to accomplish that feat.

"Last Friday Night" has proven to be another successful track for the star, and the party anthem recently got an assist from Missy Elliott on the remix.

Perry's Teenage Dream videos have also been cultural smashes. For the 2011 Video Music Awards, Perry racked up the most nominations with nine, including nods for Video of the Year and Best Female Video for "Firework"; Best Pop Video for "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)"; and Best Collaboration, Best Art Direction, Best Direction, Best Editing and Best Special Effects for the Floria Sigismondi-directed "E.T.," which features fellow nominee Kanye West. Her dreamy "Teenage Dream" clip even nabbed a nomination for Best Cinematography.

Kate Middelton and Price William Visit Birmingham Families After Deadly Riots

Kate Middelton and Price William today visited a community centre near the spot where three men were killed during last week's riots, UK's Daily Mail reports.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middelton and Price William arrived to meet with the Muslim parents of Haroon Jahan, 21, and brothers Shazad Ali, 30, and Abdul Musavir, 31, all killed last week. “The arrival of the Duke and Duchess in bright sunshine has really helped lift the mood here,” a police officer said later.

“Looking at all the young people out and about on the streets, we couldn’t believe it was happening in Britain,” said Kate, describing her horror at the scenes unfolding earlier this month on television.

Three Muslims were buried on Thursday in a funeral attended by some 20,000. Kate Middelton and Price William were greeted by staff members from the emergency services upon arrival at Summerfield Community Centre in the Winson Green area of the city.

We want to show our continued support," Kate Middelton and Price William said.

As of 15 August, about 3,100 people have been arrested, of whom more than 1,000 have been charged. Arrests, charges and court proceedings continue, with courts working extended hours. Kate Middelton and Price William spoke for approximately 20 minutes with the parents of Haroon Jahan, Shazad Ali and Abdul Musavir.

Five people died and at least 16 others were injured as a direct result of related violent acts. An estimated £200 million worth of property damage was incurred, and local economic activity was significantly compromised. [Photo Credit Daily Mail]
